22nd June: Hua Hin to Prachuap Kiri Khan

Coconuts are big business here

The route: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/192612632 (great seaside route! 115km; 6345km total)

The chat: After such an enjoyable ride yesterday, we decided to follow a similarly coastal route today. The roads were fantastic and, with Highway 4 only a couple of miles inland, there was virtually no traffic at all. The downside to this was that we had to buy our own water, rather than hoping unmarked ‘support’ vehicles would pull up alongside. It was a day of covering the kilometers while resisting the temptation to jump into the Gulf of Thailand.

The views more than compensated for the headwind and heat, and we took the day rather leisurely, stopping for coffee and a great seaside lunch, rolling into pretty PKK as dusk approached. Popular with Thai tourists, PKK is pleasantly bustling, and set in a beautiful bay. Eschewing the LP recommendations, we opted for Lily’s guesthouse – two double rooms with seafront verandah (perfect for clothes drying and contemplative beer sipping) for $20 all in – bargain!

Proof! I do all the pedalling and Emma reads her Kindle
