23rd June: Prachuap Khiri Khan – R&R

PKK – not a bad place for a rest day

The route: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/192612614 (45km total 6390km)

The chat: Unfortunately one of the 10 or so dishes at the night market didn’t agree with Emma’s alimentary tract – the iced coffee remains the number 1 suspect, but we’ll never know. Anyhow, she was clearly in no fit state to ride any distance, so we settled on an impromptu rest day, allowing for some brotherly bonding. Nick and I first ascended the ubiquitous hilltop Wat (where Nick got mugged by the local alpha male, who snarled at him until he handed over his water bottle – see below) and then  rode to the nearby Myanmar/Thai border, for a market stroll and photo ops. Returning via the beautiful Ao Manao bay, we were allowed (bizarrely) to ride through a Thai airbase, crossing a runway in the process.

Em was back on solids by the evening, even managing a Magnum – what a tough cookie she is…

Why are your helmets on the cycle rack rather than your heads?
